Privacy Policy
paws.ms is run by Murds for the Paws MapleStory community. This page explains what the site stores about you, why, who can see it, and what you can do about it. There are no ads and no third-party analytics.
1. What we collect
From Discord when you sign in: your Discord user ID, username, and avatar, plus which roles you hold in the Paws Discord server. The site checks those roles to decide whether you are a member, a guest, or an administrator.
From the members list kept by administrators: your Discord ID, in-game name (IGN), the name you go by, guild, timezone, join date, and any administrator notes. Administrators add and update these when you join or change guilds.
What you enter yourself: profile edits (name, timezone, birthday, IGN change requests), extra characters ("mules"), culvert scores, your yearbook bio, watch-party suggestions and votes, and Friday Question suggestions and votes.
From Nexon: the site looks up your IGN (and your mules' IGNs) in Nexon's public MapleStory rankings and stores daily, weekly, and monthly EXP snapshots, level, class, and character image URL so the leaderboards and profile pages work. This is public ranking data.
Administrative records: an audit log of actions taken on the site (who changed what, when), IGN change requests and their outcome, and a list of people administrators have barred from the community.
Technical: your IP address is used briefly to limit request rates and appears in the hosting provider's request logs. It is not stored in the site's own database.
2. Why
To sign you in and work out what you may access; to show profiles, leaderboards, the watch list, the yearbook, and Friday Questions to members; to let administrators manage the member list and keep a record of changes; and to keep the site working and free of abuse.
3. Who can see it
- Other signed-in members can see your profile page, IGN, mules, name, guild, culvert scores, EXP history, yearbook bio, birthday, timezone, and your watch-party and Friday Question activity. Members cannot see your administrator notes or the audit log.
- Guests (Guest or Friends role) can see only the watch-party pages.
- Administrators can see everything, including notes and the audit log.
- The Paws Discord: a summary of each administrative action (for example "member added", "IGN changed") is posted to a private administrator channels. These include your Discord ID or name.
Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.
4. Services that process the data
- Discord — sign-in (OAuth) and the guild's bot, which reads roles and posts notices.
- Vercel — hosts the site and keeps standard request logs.
- Neon — hosts the database (United States region).
- Nexon — receives the IGNs the site looks up in its public ranking API, and serves character images to your browser.
5. Cookies and browser storage
The site sets a session cookie so you stay signed in and a CSRF cookie that protects forms. Your light/dark theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage. No tracking or advertising cookies are used.
6. How long we keep it
Your data stays while you are a member. When a member leaves or is deactivated, their record is marked inactive rather than deleted so historical leaderboards and the audit log stay intact. Yearbook snapshots are frozen copies and are kept indefinitely. You can ask for your profile data to be deleted (see below).
7. Your choices
- You can edit your name, timezone, birthday, bio, and mules yourself from your profile, and request an IGN change if you've changed your in-game name.
- You can ask an administrator, via a support ticket in the Paws Discord, to show you what is stored about you, correct it, or delete your profile data. Audit log entries that record administrative actions are kept, but personal details in them can be redacted on request.
- Leaving the Paws Guild ends your access. Sign out at any time from the menu.
8. Children
The site is for people aged 13 and over, in line with Discord's requirements. If you believe a younger person's data has been collected, tell an administrator and it will be removed.
9. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, it will be announced in the Paws Discord and the effective date above will be updated.
